I'm So Glad 02:01
I split my time between guitar and another good book split my days between work and a horseshoe game talking on the phone and I hear what's going on out there listen to the music and I think I know what's on everybody's mind I'm so glad that after all has been said and done that you and I have still got something great I'm so glad that you can tell me all what you tell because you and I have still got so much to say I'm so glad that you can move on and how you do because you and I make each other so brave split my time between TV and late night barbecues sharing my days with an open mic and basketball doing all I can to bring the world to Oregon and making all the plans to re put my game on track

she's got a '71 Volkswagen bus with a bumper sticker that reads "Texas or Bust" and half a fifth of Jack under the passenger seat she's got half a pack of Lucky Strikes and somehow she's got to make them last all night because there won't be no stopping before that state line better let her run let the young girl run maybe someday she'll come home maybe her whole life she'll roam either way you've got to let the young girl run she tries to forget the crazy long haired boy the one she says that now she can't stand but she'll listen to the mix he made again in a hundred miles there's really nobody that she'd rather see more but he said some words she can't forgive him for and sometimes somehow that's just the way it goes

the ghost only knows what it knows, what it knows where do I go? do I go? do I go? when the past haunts like a wraith, on a chase, on a chase what's to know, oh what's to know, where do I go? nobody wants to believe in a shelf full of regrets no way of cheating out of, get what you get the ghost only goes where it goes, let it go it takes in tow the chains of woe, chains of woe in can haunt, on and on, on and on claws and rot, enter your thought, in your thoughts

Work of Art 02:11
maybe he's a work of art maybe he's looking for a fresh start maybe he was born in the dark maybe he's a work of art maybe he's a jerk maybe it just comes with the turf or maybe he just knows his worth all of that being a jerk so, tell me what would we do if we forget now how to learn? if we forget now how to learn tell me, what would we do? maybe he's a joke talks a lot but just blowing smoke maybe he just misspoke all of that being a joke maybe he doesn't know his name maybe he's just playing games maybe he doesn't feel pain or maybe he just lost his brain

something is wrong here this house gives me the spooks something's gone wrong here nightmares haunt my dreams what is that warble I hear in the night? feathers on the landing fill me with fear and fright crescendo of pecking, I wish I had a night light glowing eyes, avian, can I survive tonight? legends tell of Thanksgivings years ago slaughters in the backyard fresh turkey plucked and baked now the bird has returned to take revenge it is too late, I can see my future end the haunting turkey, I can't imagine a fowl-er fate time of regrets, I wish that turkey never got ate

A faded picture I guess it fell behind the dresser we were so young then it hurts a little to remember you got out some paper I'm glad you wrote a letter with the phones and computers sometimes a letter feels better you asked about Erik I think he's somewhere in Alaska probably on a boat somewhere you know he always had a knack for it you say you're hoping someday maybe we'll be on the same block not that it would be weird, or nothing just be nice to sit face to face and talk please come to Oregon please come to Oregon stop it with all your dreaming I want to look into your eyes again put down what you're doing come visit me in Oregon again where did the years go? I'll be damned if I could know but everything has been fine and good I know we did the best we could I want to hear about your day to day so much I'm wishing I could say whatever we've got left between us I can make sure it's enough

The road had been hard that night when I strolled in, I suppose I was a sight still, my sword and dirk were put away and honestly, I just wanted a place to stay But the empire crumbles, so what should I expect? what foe I face, who will be slain next? the bar is welcoming, but it bodes death for none slays better than I with whiskey on my breath the dying light shown perfectly on the floor a muscled hobgoblin (snide grind goblin) (axe bearing minotaur) strode on through the door blade in hand and stared down (off) (up) at me I knew I'd now begin the killing spree chairs and tables were pushed up to the walls when I last faced so many, I could not recall swords unsheathed, to ready, my foes stood that was the challenge, now I'd answer in blood would not be long before someone summoned the guard but not before I would take my reward how many songs would be sung to celebrate this day? the tales told of this all mighty fray

Half Caf 02:14
wandering in random, fresh off the streets we locked eyes, but just for a sec it was no big deal, just a chance meet but there was only one table left I was in line when I realized my wallet was no place to be found she said that's okay, I'll get you anything, any size that's okay, about to walk away, she said go sit down I sat at the table and waited a few bored, I just stared off at nothing before long she showed up, two mugs in hand, I muttered thank you now stuck, we had to chat, so I said what's new not much, she laughed, and then took a sip I did too, it wasn't too bad a little too much cream, not enough steam, too hot to grip she said, good right? you know it's just half caf I started to laugh, thought what the heck but she stopped me and began to explain I will never believe what came next she said it's better for you and easy on the brain
10.
Madman 04:17
do you want to be a good man? do you want to be a bad man? do you want to be a madman? If you got all the money does that make your bad jokes funny? enough to be a madman? what are your excuses? to justify abuses? excuse to be a madman? write down in a letter all your choices you will make to change then keep it close at heart, reminder of where you aim doesn't matter who you show, deep inside you will know if when the story's over, yes or no, something to show? do you want to be a good friend? do you have a message to send? do you want to be a madman? do you want to get with it? do the people think you're bullshit? think you are a madman? are people really on your team? or is it some kind of false thing? because you are a madman walking all alone at night what do you want to say? deep inside your shell what is it for you hope and pray? can you comprehend, means to an end, the way you rend? talk and say what is so great, never asking when?

CotTLLoT 02:27
long gone are the days when a hero could protect the land the mighty who came to take up sword in hand now the ruins are all that's left to mark the spot where the palace stood in glory, now long forgot beneath the ruins the caverns of dungeons lie the mazes of caves stretch vast and wide only one master can rule down in the dark with cauldrons bubbling, weaving, the sinister art cave of the troll lord, lord of trolls once served the king, but that time is gone slave to evil, the denizens hear the call to rule the throne, take back his home, once again the hole one speaks of a time when the woods were safe when the sun goes down they become a haunting place the troll lord peeks from behind each bush and tree plotting and waiting, one day he'll set the forces free

Chiloquin 02:20
Seeing you there with a Pabst can on the ground In that coat you stole from the lost and found yes, I brought you coffee but it's still too hot a little thank you for letting me share your cot Yes I scored some good fireworks what time is it and when do you start work? Yea I got a ride, we'll find someplace to go we an get drunk and drive out some county road if we've never been there how can we know what it's like? if I can show up while you are working maybe I'll feel like I belong oh no, it's like we're back in Chiloquin Yes, I'll admit some days, well, I hate your dog and for what it's worth, I don't know if that's right or wrong yea, I got some money, I can pay you back well, I know you're pleased but you play it off, so matter of fact If we do not leave will we someday regret being here? when the winter is over maybe I can start looking around oh no, it's like we're back in Chiloquin

about

After having a major jaw surgery last year it has been a task to try and start playing guitar and singing again. I had the fortunate experience of playing live as part of a Springfield, OR art walk and have been able to get back into it. (Thanks to Mary Phayt for playing so many songs with me).

All of these songs are the ones I've been playing lately as I mostly sing for my cat. I needed to get them out there, somehow. Most were recorded on my phone in only a few takes, selecting the best ones. So, yes you get some of my mistakes and hic-ups. But, hopefully some character will shine through on the tunes, as well. I'm still amazed at how far technology has come that I could download an app to record with that actually sounds pretty good, for what it is.

Anyway, I think these songs sound about as close to hearing them live as possible. I hope you enjoy.
